Kismet: A Story of Growth, Gratitude & What Comes Next.

When The Kismet Table first opened its doors in 2020 this was a one-person operation. I cooked meals to-go on weekends, washed dishes, sent emails, swept floors, and welcomed our incredibly patient early customers who believed in something still very much in the making. There were no shelves of beautiful gift items, no retail offerings, no flower bar, just food made with care, offered to a handful of neighbors during one of the most uncertain times in our history.

Here we are five years later, and Kismet has grown into something far beyond what I ever imagined. What began as a small pandemic pivot is now a thriving five-day-a-week (soon to be six!) business welcoming hundreds of customers weekly. We’ve grown from a solo operation to a team of six full- and part-time staff, with plans to create several new positions in the coming months. We’ve been fortunate to garner recognition from British Vogue, CS Magazine, Eater Chicago, ABC, WGN, and a vibrant community of Chicago tastemakers who’ve helped shine a light on what we do. Our curated retail selection has blossomed, and Kismet has become a go-to destination for thoughtful gifts, gorgeous blooms, and a growing number of exclusive items from both local artisans and internationally renowned brands.

 Now, we’re dreaming even bigger & Kismet 2.0 is on the horizon:

Even more curated gifts and home goods.  
We're planning to resume private events, introduce a thoughtful, exclusive selection of wine and spirits, expand our linen and tabletop collections, and launch a communal dinner series to celebrate food, connection, and creativity.
